Carol Kinsey '56 The spam email happened to me last year almost the same words but the person was in London. I am on an email list for a coffeehouse in Benton Park and it was from the owner which we have never met. I thought this was strange and called the coffeehouse and got her husband who said she was home. He said someone got their email list and had contacted people on it. He said they lost their email list and couldn't contact anyone regarding this. Also, I thought the US Embassy would be very helpful which made me suspicious. ca.kinsey@sbcglobal.net 8/12/2011

Jackie Robinson Maloney '52 Much of Coach's memorabilia went home with folks from the June luncheon, and we are happy for those recipients. He saved so much! I still have a box of trophies/awards given to the teams of 1976, '77, '78 that I would love to go to men from those teams. If you know of anyone from those years, please have them contact me to receive these items. If I cannot give them to team members, I will give some to the school, but there are about 8-10 and I don't know if the school would want them all. Alyron10@aol.com 6/25/2011

Spiro Athanas '60 One of the wonders of the Internet was made manifest to me recently. I received an e-mail from a woman named Linda who lives in Texas. Her brother, who lives in Montana, sent her a copy of the article I wrote for this web site about Luigi's Pizza. I guess he Googled Luigi's and my article appeared. Linda, who gre up in St. Louis, extolled the virtues of Luigi's "white sauce" pizza with chicken. I have to admit that I can't remember Luigi's "white sauce." And that's because I never looked at the menu. My buddies and I always ordered a large pepperoni or sausage pizza and salads. Only the Internet could connect Montana and Texas with a pizza joint in St. Louis. which no longer exists. orips@aol.com 5/31/2011

JoAnn Emery Claywell '59 I recently attended the first McKinley CLA graduation of 7 seniors since the last ceremony in 1988. Marilyn (Ira) Hellwig '61 I am glad so much of Coach Blanke’s memorabilia is going to the people who loved him. Thanks Jackie for giving me the one-page essay I wrote about Coach when I was a freshman in 1957. I have no idea how coach got it or why he would have kept it. Reading it today or 54 years ago one could certainly ascertain that I would never become a writer of any kind much less a sports writer. I could not spell then and I cannot spell now (thank God for spell check) but my hand writing is still pretty good mh9742@yahoolcom 4/21/2011

Don George '58 Don’t know if I can do this justice but those of you who read Tom Kiske’s (class of ’61) Time Has its Own Terms owe to yourself to read his latest collection Tales In Ordinary Time. Those of you who haven’t read either are encouraged to read both. Both are all about growing up in the “old neighborhood” and consist of a compendium of “personal essay, brief vignettes of events large and small, serious and whimsical, life-altering and mundane”. You know, growing up on the South side of St. Louis! Tom is a gifted writer with a real talent for taking the reader back to those special times we can all relate to. His writing will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. Google it, available at Amazon among other places. Really a great read! dgeorge13@verizon.net 4/11/2011

In addition to the Message Board, I have received quite a few phone calls, emails and notes about the article, and I thank everyone who responded. Jim Bohn '36 My father attended McKinley and graduated in the class of 1936. He and I were going through his yearbook this past week and I made a mental note to check the internet to see if there was a website for the McKinley Goldbug alumnae. Here you are! His name is Jim Bohn and he used to have email but gave up on it. He is 91 years old and still lives at home with my mother but is in hospice care for pancreatic cancer. I know he would love to hear from any other "old timers". He talked quite a bit this week about his high school years. And that yearbook is a hoot! Just thought I would drop a note. Laura ' Hi. I'm a parent of a student at Mckinley today and a PTO member, as well as a descendant of a Goldbug, Sam Milosevich. I'd like you to know what an inspiration you all are to the Goldbugs of today. Sometimes things are awfully frustrating out there, and seeing y'all at the school events and keeping that Goldbug Spirit strong is enough to give us that extra bit to keep going when it looks bleak. I'd like to thank you for always being there....Sometimes, our applause doesn't really seem to convey the powerful emotions that your constant presence brings to us in those difficult moments. Thank you. Moore 11/23/2010

Digger O'Dell '61 ALERT: Oft-times a recently-deceased will claim live status. Whether this occurs thru simple error (ala "The Sixth Sense"), an attempt to regain the benefits of the living, or merely to mess with us, it is a situation of which to remain vigilant. Then, of course, there are the actual zombies, who are best avoided altogether. It is always best to confirm live status before interacting with a "person." Iplantem@6ft.com 6/29/2010

Bob Dorries (McKinley Band Director) ' Your current McKinley Goldbug Combo will be performing twice in the next couple of weeks. On Thursday evening, July 1st we will be playing a full one-hour set of music from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's at Memorial Field (corner of Glendale and Elm) from 8 to 9PM as part of the Webster Groves Community Days Festival. This event is free and open to everyone but it is outside so you will need to bring along your own lawn chair. On Saturday, July 3rd at 10AM our combo will once again be performing on a float in the Webster Community Days Parade. We have won a Best Performance Trophy each of the past two years in this parade. Torris Caston's Dance Studio is our partner in this event so there will also be McKinley dance students involved as well. The parade route is roughly from Selma & Lockwood, west to Gore, south to Big Bend, east back to Elm, and ending at the fairground at the corner of Glendale & Elm. Again everything is free and open to the public, just bring your own chair. Our combo this year is made up of all current McKinley High School and Middle School students as well as Sean Linehan (our Spanish teacher) and myself. The students in our group are: Madison Goldman, Matt Barbier, Abraham Shaw, Austin Rakey, Jordan Young, Miguel Plancarte, and Franklin Rosario. Please come out and see your Goldbug Band in action. bobdorries@charter.net 6/20/2010

Mary True Stamm '70 Class of 1970 - Our reunion date is now Friday, August 13. Location is Royale Orleans, 2801 Telegraph Rd in St. Louis. If you need more information, contact me by email. And please spread the word to classmates who do not have email. Thanks everyone. mastamm@swbell.net 5/25/2010
Vera Whang '61 I believe Mr. Piper misapprehended the information regarding the rehearsal. It is a "Free Dress" rehearsal, similar to "Cap Night" at the ball park, except that attendees at the rehearsal will be given a free dress. Alternatively, those who do not wish a dress may opt for a free dressing down by our panel of experts. We trust this clarifies the matter. A good time will be had, by all! V.Whang@wangdoodle.com 5/25/2010
Peter Piper '61 Hello. I am interested in attending the dress rehearsal for the musical performance but am a bit apprehensive about wearing a dress. I usually only do this at home with all the blinds drawn. Would it be OK if I just wore the frilly underthings and maybe a pants suit? Also, is this like a junior performance of something called "Into the Woods," or is someone commanding Junior to go into the woods? ("Into the woods, Junior!") What are they gonna do in the woods, anyway? I'd like to know what to expect. Thank you. PPpicked@peck.com 5/23/2010
Fonz '53 Thanks to all the Mckinley persons that are working on the Message Board. It great to have. gruezi7@hotmail.com 5/23/2010

The Alumni of McKinley High School are cordially invited to attend a free dress rehearsal performance of McKinley Classical Leadership Academy’s Spring Theatrical Musical Performance of Into the Woods, Jr., Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 7:00 pm. We are so grateful to the McKinley Goldbug Alumni Association for originally seeding our theatrical department. This is our third annual production. Without your dedication to our school, much of what we have and do wouldn’t exist. This year’s cast features very talented students ranging in grades from six through eleven. Please pass this information on to any Goldbug, as we would love to fill the house! emily.scott@slps.org 5/23/2010

To you students - please remember that this is the website of proud Goldbugs who work hard to raise money to help your school. Please do not disrespect them and their website with your foolishness! Don George '58 Hey Barb Bradford Hughes, enjoyed your Favorite Teachers piece and share your enthusiasm for the teachers you picked. But found your reference to Jeanne Tintea even more interesting. Spring of '59 Maryann was off on the Washington/NYC field trip and I bought my first convertible while she was away. Couldn't wait until she returned to show it off and invited who at least up until then was her good friend Jeanne to take a test spin with me. All perfectly harmless but I don't I ever quite persuaded Maryann of that. PS couldn't find your email otherwise would have been more personal in sending this to you. Spiro Athanas '60 In the late 1600s a fellow named Tom Brown famously wrote this about one of his professors at Oxford in England: I do not love thee Dr. Fell, The reason why I cannot tell: But this I know and know full well, I do not love thee Dr. Fell. It's too bad our current McKinley students can't muster at least a fraction of that wit and eloquence in denouncing their teacher. Isn't their some way to erase their juvenile rantings from the message board? orips@aol.com 2/2/2010

Jackie Robinson Maloney '52 While we are happy for current students at McKinley to visit our website, our Message Board is not the appropriate place for ugly messages about your teachers. They probably don't visit the site and the alumni don't know the teachers so it accomplishes nothing to vent on our website. We encourage you to continue the proud traditions of our alma mater by respecting our website. Your intelligence should put you above these petty messages. Please respect the alumni and this website and do not leave this type of message here. Alyron10@aol.com 1/30/2010
